Undermining & Oversharing, 2021
The publication Undermining & Oversharing is a result of the exhibition and research project undertaken by the class of Nicole Wermers & friends between 2020 and 2021. The exhibition of the same title took place at Galerie der Stadt Schwaz in Austria in May 2021. Based on the historical shaping of the city of Schwaz by the mining of silver, and the focus of the class on the reflection of materials and the socio-economic conditions under which they are processed, exhibition and publication created a framework in which the students investigated politics of extraction and related themes. At the same time, parallels to more recent phenomena of “mining” were explored, specifically the extraction of data and personal information to generate profit inherent in the ‘digital economy‘.
